VA Caregiver Support Program
Caregiver Support Program (CSP) - Highlighted Resource for the Month - September
September Resource of the month - VA S.A.V.E Training for Caregivers
VA S.A.V.E. Training for Caregivers is offered to caregivers of enrolled Veterans through the Department of Veterans Affairs' (VA) Caregiver Support Program (CSP) at every VA facility. VA S.A.V.E. Training for Caregivers stems from the broader VA S.A.V.E. training offered through VA. It provides supplemental guidance developed specifically for caregivers of Veterans. This training specifically teaches caregivers the important steps of suicide prevention: Signs, Ask, Validate, and Encourage/Expedite. It also provides practical techniques and additional resources to share with Veterans who may experience suicidal thoughts.
VA S.A.V.E. Training for Caregivers is available in person and virtually to caregivers of Veterans enrolled in VA health care who are also CSP participants. VA S.A.V.E. Training is offered through PsychArmor and is open to all caregivers, even those of Veterans not enrolled in VA health care. Both VA S.A.V.E. Trainings (in-person/VA facility and online) may be suitable for caregivers who:
- Seek to become more confident and direct in preventing Veteran suicide.
- Desire guidance on how to demonstrate support and encouragement.
- Want to enhance their intervention skills and overall caregiving.
- Would like to learn more about the resources available to at-risk Veterans.
