VA Caregiver Support Program (CSP) - In Remembrance of September 11

In Remembrance of September 11

On September 11, 2001, terrorists took more than three thousand innocent lives. While the tragedy changed us as a nation forever, it also ignited our resilience and spirit, and inspired countless Americans — many of you — with the call to serve. We have rebuilt, as America always does, but on this day especially, we remember and reflect.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. Cities and towns across the country are coming together to honor those we’ve lost, their families, and those who have stepped up to protect and serve. Those in service include the caregivers enrolled in the Caregiver Support Program. The care and compassion you provide ensures the health and dignity of Veterans who incur illness or injury while protecting our freedom and the rights of millions across the world.

This has been a challenging year on many fronts, so as we honor you, we also want to support you. If you are having a difficult time, know that this is normal.

  • If you’re struggling, take a moment and Reach Out. Visit https://www.va.gov/reach/spm/ to learn about the resources available to you.
  • If you need to talk, the Veterans Crisis Line is available by phone (1-800-273-8255 and Press 1), text (838255), and chat 24/7, 365 days per year.
  • For questions about CSP, call the Veterans Affairs National Caregiver Support Line toll-free at 1-855-260-3274, Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. ET, and Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET.

It’s my honor to express my gratitude, again, for all that you do — today and every day. Please know that we are always in this together. It’s my privilege to serve you.  Never above you, never below you, always besides you.

Very Respectfully,

Colleen M. Richardson, Psy.D
Executive Director, Caregiver Support Program
