Caregiver Support Program (CSP)

Program of General Caregiver Support Services (PGCSS)


PGCSS is part of VA’s Caregiver Support Program and is available at every VA medical center. Caregivers participating in PGCSS have access to certain supports and benefits designed to support caregivers in their caregiving role. To participate in PGCSS, the caregiver and Veteran must meet certain eligibility criteria and requirements.

PGCSS eligibility requirements:

The Veteran must:
    • Be enrolled in VA health care, and
    • Need personal care services because the Veteran:
         – Is unable to perform an activity of daily living, or
         – Needs supervision or protection based on symptoms or residuals of neurological or other impairment or injury.

The caregiver must:
    • Provide the personal care services to the Veteran.

How to participate in PGCSS

Contact the local CSP Team and participate in a brief intake process. There is no application, and clinical evaluation is not required.

PGCSS supports and benefits
