The Caregiver Support Program offers the following supports and benefits to caregivers participating in PGCSS or PCAFC, however some programs, such as specific types of support groups, may vary by location. - VA’s text messaging service that promotes self-care for caregivers by sending simple, encouraging messages and practical tips that reduce stress, build confidence, and make day-to-day caregiving feel a little easier. You just need a phone that can receive text messages to enroll. 


Art Journaling for Caregivers - A 6-week workshop that incorporates colors, images, patterns, and outside materials into traditional journaling styles. It's a fun, low pressure way to combine the introspective benefits of journaling with the creative benefits of art. 

Building Better Caregivers (BBC) - A 6-week online workshop designed to support caregivers of Veterans dealing with dementia, memory issues, PTSD, serious brain injury, or other significant illnesses.


Caregiver Health and Wellbeing Coaching - A personalized wellness coaching service designed exclusively for caregivers.  Coaches partner with caregivers to create and carry out a focused Personalized Health Plan crafted to improve the physical, emotional, and mental health and wellbeing of caregivers.

Caregivers FIRST - A 4-session caregiver skills group training program with the goal of connecting caregivers with each other and to resources to help them feel more confident, capable, and supported in their caregiving role. The program is designed to help caregivers build coping, support-seeking, and hands-on skills and strategies.  

Caregivers Supporting Veterans in Mental Health Recovery - A 5-session interactive training program designed to educate and empower caregivers supporting a Veteran with a serious mental illness. This program is designed to help caregivers learn new skills, gain knowledge of symptoms and treatment, understand de-escalation skills, connect with other caregivers and practice fighting stigma. CPR Family & Friends - This course teaches lifesaving CPR skills. The course is taught in a dynamic group environment using the American Heart Association's (AHA) research-proven practice-while-watching CPR technique. Participants will practice on a CPR training mannequin while skills are demonstrated in the course video.

CPR+ Training - This course is ideal for caregivers seeking to be prepared for emergencies. By the end of the course participants learn basic first aid skills and feel more confident in their ability to handle certain emergency situations safely and effectively. Dementia Education to Empower Caregivers - A 2-session series providing education about the types, warning signs, symptoms and stages of dementia, distress behavior management skills and communication and coping strategies.  The curriculum is full of useful information to consider when caring for a Veteran living with dementia. Healthy Teaching Kitchens - An experiential group cooking class that includes nutrition education, to support caregivers with sustainable healthy eating habits for both them and their Veteran. Caregivers receive education on meal planning, budgeting, grocery shopping, label reading, food prep, storage, safety, culinary skills and techniques and so much more. Following a Healthy Teaching Kitchen group caregivers will have increased confidence in preparing a healthy, home-cooked meal. Recipes. For more information please contact your local CSP Team.


Parkinson’s Disease Training for Caregivers - A 2-session series designed to provide caregivers with the knowledge and resources they need to confidently move forward alongside their Veteran as they navigate and learn to live with a Parkinson’s diagnosis. Peer Support Mentoring (PSM) - An opportunity for caregivers connect with one another to receive support and guidance while sharing their experiences, knowledge, skills, and passion. Mentors may provide 1:1 support through an individual mentor-mentee relationship and/or co-facilitate caregiver support groups in partnership with Caregiver Support Program staff.

Power of Living Connected (PLC) - A 6-session group designed to help caregivers identify their values, understand purpose, practice self-compassion, exercise authenticity, review their social circles and plan for intentional connections. For more information please contact your local CSP Team.

Resources for Enhancing All Caregivers Health (REACH) VA -  A program intended to help caregivers of Veterans navigate the challenges of caregiving through personal coaching, telephone support groups, caregiver notebook, and skill building, to manage Veteran-related care activities.

Respite - Is a period of rest or a break from caregiving. Whether it’s for a few hours or a few days, respite can help caregivers take time for themselves.  Respite options include short-term relief through selfcare activities, help from family or friends, and formal VA services such as in home support, adult day programs, or temporary nursing home care. stays.

Self-Care Activites - Provide practical supports including group offerings, daily reflection tools, stress management handouts and much more. Self-care materials.

VA S.A.V.E. Training - A 90-minute course that focuses on suicide prevention education. It teaches caregivers how to Spot (S) the warning signs that a person may be experiencing thoughts of suicide and provides skills to Ask (A) the question “Are you thinking about killing yourself?” This interactive training also supports caregivers to successfully Validate (V) a person’s experience and to Encourage and Expedite (E) treatment. The course can help you identify someone at risk for suicide and know what to do if they show signs of harming themselves.

Thriving Through Change and Loss - A 6-session group series that offers a safe and supportive space for caregivers to step back, breathe, and take a moment to explore change, loss, grief and growth. Caregivers are encouraged to take time to experience emotions, reflect on past experiences and allow these things to help them learn what is needed to be able to thrive both now and in the future.
